At the AGM on the 5th of December 2000, members of the St. George DRLFC received very encouraging news about a St. George based homeground.
The St. George-Illawarra board have agreed to play Sydney games at Barton Park when the ground is redeveloped. Plans are being drawn up for the redevelopment of the St. George Soccer Stadium and this could see the Dragons back in the St.George district within 3 years.
Bill Bariamis, the St. George soccer club president, is the driving force behind the proposed redvelopment. Mr.Bariamis stated,
"We would do anything to have the Dragons back in the St. George district and this stadium would serve soccer in the summer and league in the winter."
The St. George Soccer Association wants to be admitted to the NSL within 3 years. Bill Bariamis has confirmed that discussions have taken place between architects Woods Bagot and a bank which is keen to underwrite the development.
Barton Park was a rubbish tip before St .George Budapest soccer club took out a lease in 1974. The soccer club holds a lease on the ground until 2014.
