Kogarah’s capacity set to increase as local derby goes to ‘Gong
December 3, 2005
A Daily Telegraph article focusing on the renaissance of suburban rugby
league grounds has confirmed that the capacity of OKI Jubilee Stadium
will increase by 1,000 due to the installation of perimeter bucket seats
at the Dragons’ spiritual home.

Following the completion of
the lighting project, SX Projects have commenced the preparatory work
that will see Kogarah’s seating facilities significantly modernised
before round 13 when the Saints meet Parramatta for the first St.George
District home game of the season.
The existing aluminium benches have been removed and the existing operation
centre will be relocated adjacent to the scoreboard. The stage one upgrade
will include new toilets and kiosks and the installation of a permanent
video screen.
Earlier this week, the Dragons announced the split of home games for 2006:
Panthers Sunday 19th March 3.00pm WIN Stadium
Broncos Sunday 2nd April 3.00pm WIN Stadium
Knights Saturday 8th April 7.30pm WIN Stadium
Roosters 25th April Aussie Stadium
Warriors 13-14 May WIN Stadium
Eels 2-4 June Oki Jubilee Stadium
Cowboys 24-26 June WIN Stadium
Rabbitohs 7-9 July Oki Jubilee Stadium
Bulldogs 14-16 July Oki Jubilee Stadium
Storm 28-30 July Oki Jubilee Stadium
Tigers 18-20 August Oki Jubilee Stadium
Sharks 25-27 August WIN Stadium
While Kogarah will host the
Bulldogs for the first time since 1999, the local derby against the Sharks
has been lost to Wollongong. With four straight Kogarah home games in
succession from rounds 18 to 24, the Dragons could have scheduled their
final fixtures more logically and appropriately if they had kept the local
derby at Kogarah and switched the Melbourne Storm game to Wollongong.
Dragons’ CEO Peter Doust informed the St.George Leader that no crowd
problems are envisaged for the Bulldogs’ match at Kogarah:
“We’re confident the Bulldogs strict new criteria governing
Bulldogs fan behaviour, implemented last season, will result in an incident-free
game in round 19.”
