R2K expresses concern at Jubilee upgrade delay

The R2K committee is concerned about the delay of the next stage of the OKI Jubilee Stadium upgrade works that were approved by Kogarah Council on 12 February 2007.

While R2K is aware of the statement at the Kogarah Red V forum relating to seeking additional Governmental funding to complete the full scope of the proposed works, the R2K committee has sought clarification from Dragons’ CEO Peter Doust on why construction has not commenced on the extension of the existing grandstand.

The $7 million grant for the next stage of the Jubilee upgrade has already been paid by the State Government.

While the Jubilee Project Manager has been helpful in providing some information about the temporary exclusion of the St.George Museum and Football Offices from the project, the R2K committee is apprehensive about the lack of progress on the next stage of the Jubilee development and the fact that limited information has been forthcoming to Dragons’ supporters and Kogarah ratepayers.

It was understood that the Dragons’ Kogarah home games were scheduled early this season to allow construction to commence following the completion of the round 16 match against Manly-Warringah on 1 July.

On this basis, the scheduling of the Kogarah matches in 2007 made complete sense, but it’s disappointing that the OKI Jubilee Steering Committee hasn’t been able to utilise the last eight weeks to ensure the next stage of the Jubilee upgrade is completed in a timely manner.

The R2K committee has also asked Dragons’ Management to confirm that OKI Jubilee Stadium will host at least five Dragons’ NRL matches in season 2008.
