R2K President makes Kogarah Council bid

13 August 2008

R2K President Lachlan McLean has nominated as an Independent Candidate for the 13 September NSW Local Government Election in Kogarah.

McLean will head an Independent ticket and will compete against the Labor Party, the Liberal Party, the Unity Party and other independent candidates for one of the three vacant Councillor roles.

"I'm standing as an Independent Candidate as I'm passionate about Kogarah's future and believe that the Kogarah Municipality needs more Councillors that are not aligned to the major political parties," said McLean.

"I will also continue to work to ensure that OKI Jubilee Stadium is upgraded in consultation with the local community and that the Dragons make a long term commitment to playing NRL matches in the Kogarah Municipality."

McLean is standing on the following platform:

* He will oppose over-development in residential areas

* Attack the parking problems in central Kogarah

* Promote local business to achieve local jobs

* Improve the water quality of Kogarah Bay by cracking down on pollution

* Upgrade Kogarah's Parks and Reserves
