Dragons’ westward move denounced by Kogarah Councillor

Mark Coure, a high profile Kogarah Councillor, has expressed his misgivings about the Dragons’ decision to leave OKI Jubilee Stadium for the 2008 season.

"I'm very concerned with the Dragons' decision not to play their home games in the Kogarah Municipality in 2008,” Coure said.

"OKI Jubilee Stadium is the Dragons' spiritual home and it has iconic status in the St.George region.”

Councillor Coure has called on the Dragons to provide more information about the reasons that Kogarah isn’t being utilised for the NRL’s Centenary season:

"I think St.George-Illawarra have a duty to provide more information on this decision to ratepayers in the St.George District and St.George supporters,” he said.

"While I'm up to speed with the reasons for the redevelopment delay, there is no reason why our Kogarah matches can't be played at OKI Jubilee Stadium in the early part of the 2008 season."

Councillor Coure, who is a Director of Oatley RSL, challenged the Dragons to provide specific redevelopment information and to guarantee Kogarah’s allocation of matches in 2009.

"I call on the Dragons to specify when the redevelopment of a lesser scale will commence if the additional funding isn't forthcoming from the State Government,” Coure added.

"I also ask the Dragons to formally guarantee that there will be a minimum of six matches at OKI Jubilee Stadium in 2009."

His support adds to the support that Hurstville Council provided to OKI Jubilee Stadium in a formal motion on Wednesday night.

“Homebush is no home for our Dragons. What does St.George have to do with Sydney's Western Suburbs?” Coure added.
