Bad news for Kogarah season ticket-holders
10/03/2005
The St.George Leader has exclusively reported that the planned seating improvements at Oki Jubilee Stadium won't go ahead this season and that work has been deferred until the end of the year.
The Dragons have been advised that the works would have an impact on the ground capacity and crowd comfort. The St.George Leader provided no additional explanation and hopefully the Dragons will release a press release shortly to explain the full reasons for the delay.
The Development Application for the seating was approved on 14 February and the tender process for the seating was run in tandem with the Development Application process.
The news is a blow for Oki Jubilee Stadium in 2005 and the Oki Jubilee Steering Committee should ensure that the full details of the delay are outlined to St.George-Illawarra supporters. It is expected that Kogarah season ticket-holders affected by the seating delay will receive their season tickets over the next fortnight.
It is further bad news for the Dragons, following the public backlash relating to the Telstra Stadium proposal.
However, Dragons' CEO Peter Doust was forthright in his support of Oki Jubilee Stadium in the same St.George Leader article:
" We have no plans to go to Telstra in 2006 and we have an unequivocal contract with Oki Jubilee, especially with the government funding for league and sport generally there."
Despite this, Doust stated that the Dragons wouldn't ".turn our back on commercial offers to stage some [games] elsewhere in the future".
