Rally 2000

The R2K rally took place on the 29th of July, 2000 at Kogarah Park, behind Jubilee Oval. The immediate objective of R2K was to call for 50% of St. George-Illawarra home games in 2001 and beyond to be played at Jubilee Oval. R2K was not designed to be an attack on the Club or an anti-Illawarra movement. The main purpose of the rally was to put the issue of a St. George homeground back on the club's agenda. The speakers on the day included Fred Cavanagh, Dick Caine, Robert Corra, Kevin Noon, Alf Abbott and Ross Green. Peter Bryant was the MC, while Cherie Burton sent a statement of support. Peter Doust and Danny Robinson spoke on behalf of St. George-Illawarra.

Although the R2K rally failed to gain any games for Kogarah in 2001, it was a success because it made a St. George district homeground an issue once more. Following the news about the proposed redevelopment of Barton Park, Dragons supporters were focused on the prospect of Barton Park becoming the Dragons' St. George homeground once the existing site was redeveloped.

The R2K movement fully endorsed the redevelopment of Barton Park and supported the efforts of the St. George Soccer Association. Unfortunately, neither the Barton Park or the eventual proposed Cahill Park redevelopment were successful. With great enthusiasm, R2K has now taken the St. George homeground issue back to Kogarah’s Jubilee Oval. R2K believes that the Dragons have a bright future at Kogarah if the St. George Leagues Club and Kogarah Council are willing to work together. R2K recognises that the Dragons are a community asset and the pride of the St. George district. R2K will continue to fight the homeground battle until the Dragons play 50% of their home games in the St.George district.
